Backup Catalog Management
Retire legacy backup catalog software and maintain access to tape data

For data centers looking to transition to a new backup software provider or retire legacy backup software, Index Engines can ingest the legacy catalog and manage it more cost effectively going forward. This eliminates the lock that backup software vendors have on clients due to the legacy data that is hidden away in their proprietary format. Index Engines unlocks this data and makes access and migration easy and cost effective.

Index Engines currently supports ingestion and management of catalogs from CommVault, IBM’s Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and Veritas' NetBackup, with additional formats coming soon. For additional formats including HP DP, Backup Exec, Networker and others, Index Engines can rebuild the catalog from a header scan.

Both ingestion and rebuild options enable detailed reporting to take place. Typical catalog reports are based on backup metadata and include: file extensions, servers and location, email databases, times (modified, accessed), owner, size, and more. These reports allow data to be classified by location, file count, and data size.

Leveraging the catalog reports, organizations gain valuable insight into their legacy backup data environment.

  • Ingestion of catalog metadata allowing legacy backup application to be retired and maintenance costs eliminated.
  • Dynamic reporting and classification of catalog data, using an intuitive graphical interface, supporting even the largest environments.
  • Classification of legacy data to develop a tape to disk migration strategy for long-term retention data.
