Network Attached Storage                        Data Sheet

Enterprise networked attached storage (NAS) contains a large amount of critical business data.  Understanding and profiling this information is a challenge due to the significant volume and diversity of the content.  Indexing this content to allows you to gain the insight necessary to implement a solid information management policy.

Crawling NAS platforms is extremely time consuming, sometimes requiring weeks/months to index the content within the vast volumes of data. Index Engines take a different approach, providing the only commercially available indexing solution that uses high speed Network Data Management Protocols (NDMP) to scan NAS data. With Index Engines indexing occurs at speeds up
to 1 TB/hour, delivering a searchable index in hour/days - not weeks/months. This unprecedented speed is explained here.

The noninvasive NDMP method pushes simultaneous streams of data to the Index Engine platform for indexing, at speeds up to 1 TB per hour. Data is not copied - it is scanned and indexed from the NDMP stream. The resulting index is generated with a footprint that is only 4 to 8% of the original files. This allows the optimized processing of large data repositories for improved access, discovery and collection of network content.

Index Engines 1 TB/Hr/node indexing performance has been validated on the following platforms:

The Index Engines platform is focused on providing comprehensive and efficient indexing of data across the enterprise. Regardless of format or location, our technology provides a unified index for access and extraction of your data assets, at unmatched speeds, scale and value. Contact us to learn more.

  • Storage Optimization – summary reports detailing storage utilization and content based reports, such as duplicate data and detailed file summaries, allow for improved management of storage resources.

  • Risk Assessment – understanding the contents of enterprise data allows for early review of sensitive information.  Search network content at any time and determine a course of action based on the results.

  • Litigation Support – supporting requests from legal has never been easier.  Simple content and metadata search delivers deterministic results of all files and email.

  • User Productivity – allows users to search for network content according to their existing network security permissions and leverage existing content.

  • Direct indexing of unstructured files and email via NDMP.  Indexing speeds reaching 1 TB/hour, many times faster than traditional indexing solutions, allow for rapid data processing and collection.

  • Ability to schedule incremental updates to ensure the index is always current.

  • Integration into existing Active Directory security environment controlling access to sensitive data.

  • Indexes combine with backup data indexes for a unified, deduplicated results set across online and offline content.

  • Full text and metadata indexing provides comprehensive search results for targeted collection.

  • “Internet like” query tools using Boolean, pattern and metadata search on network content to find and extract all relevant files and email.

  • Unique document signature generated at indexing for dynamic deduplication query capability. Returns only unique files when searching, eliminating duplicate files and email.

  • Dynamic classification of data based on query.  Execute a query and instantly generate a summary report based on the query result set.

  • Comprehensive summary reports providing detailed information about the enterprise data assets in order to support storage optimization and data protection efforts.
