Holmdel, NJ
— February

— Index
Engines, the
leader in
enterprise
discovery
solutions,
today
announced
the general
availability
of the
Automated
Tape
Extraction
Module. The
Automated
Tape
Extraction
Module
combines
with the
Index
Engines Tape
Engine to
make
traditional
offline data
discovery
methods
obsolete.
This new
solution
automatically
recognizes
the backup
application
used to
archive data
on tape
allowing for
direct
indexing and
search for
all
responsive
files and
email. Once
data is
discovered
it then can
be instantly
extracted
without
needing to
leverage the
original
backup
software.
Index
Engines
supports
both legacy
and current
versions of
backup
applications
including CA
ArcServe,
IBM Tivoli
Storage
Manager,
Symantec
NetBackup
and Backup
Exec, and
EMC
NetWorker.
Previously,
retrieving
relevant
content from
tape
required
that the
contents
first be
restored
using the
original
backup
software
used to
generate the
tape.
Depending on
the age of
the archive,
the backup
software may
no longer be
available,
making this
an
impossible
process. By
using Index
Engines Tape
Engine with
the
Automated
Extraction
Module the
eDiscovery
the process
is now
compressed
to restoring
only the
relevant
tape data.
Following a
simple
metadata
and/or
content
search to
determine
the relevant
content,
files and/or
email can be
selected and
extracted
from tape
without
using the
original
backup
software.
“In
today’s
business
climate
mergers and
acquisitions
are
commonplace,”
said Jim
McGann, vice
president of
marketing,
Index
Engines.
“Included in
these deals
are often
mountains of
tape data in
proprietary
backup
formats –
with no easy
access. The
new
Automated
Extraction
Module gives
litigation
support
teams and IT
administrators
easy access
to the
content in
these
inherited
archives.”
Tape
Engines 2.5
includes
support for
tape
libraries
for the
scanning of
large
volumes of
tapes. Also
a new tape
management
module is
included
that
automatically
generates a
catalog of
the tapes
loaded in a
library.
These
features
alongside
the
automated
extraction
capabilities
are now
commercially
available.
Pricing for
the Tape
Engine
platform
starts at
$50,000.
Base Price
for the
Automated
Tape
Extraction
Module is
$25,000.
