HOLMDEL, NJ — April 12, 2010 — Index Engines, a leader in enterprise discovery solutions, today announced a joint development agreement with B&L Associates, a leader in innovative data management solutions. This partnership will enable Index Engines’ product line to ingest backup catalogs created and managed by B&L’s Archived Data Manager (ADM). B&L’s ADM identifies inactive backup catalog data, and enables users to migrate that data to an ADM-managed catalog archive. Index Engines identifies inactive online data and enables the migration of this data to archival storage. Together, the two products dramatically improve backup speed and bandwidth utilization. In addition, by adding support for the ADM catalog format, the content of backup tapes managed by ADM can also be searched, extracted and remediated using Index Engines technology, all without the need for the original backup software.
“Inactive data consumes an average of 60% of the backup process, costing organizations time and money,” stated Michael Kramer, VP Sales and Marketing at B&L Associates. “Partnering with Index Engines complements the capabilities of our Archive Data Manager and allows clients to quickly extract this inactive data for more efficient backup management.”
"The combination of inactive backup catalog management and inactive data management brings valuable efficiency to the backup space," said Arun Taneja, consulting analyst and founder of the Taneja Group. "The streamlined approach offered by B&L and Index Engines stands to change the way storage teams use their legacy data."
By eliminating this archival data from the daily backup process, this new solution will result in faster and more manageable backups, uncluttered by inactive archival data. ADM provides a consolidated, searchable view of inactive backup catalogs, allowing customers to migrate from legacy backup formats and to prune backup catalogs of inactive and archival information.
In addition, this partnership adds value to legacy archives by enabling efficient search and data retention policies. Index Engines provides direct indexing of tape content, allowing the search and extraction of relevant content. Together, Index Engines and B&L’s products deliver a total solution that enables customers to cost effectively manage and maintain legacy backup data assets. This streamlined approach eliminates the burdensome operating costs and support fees that would otherwise be required to maintain legacy backup infrastructure. In addition, the Index Engines platform can be used to respond to eDiscovery requests for tape in the ADM backup catalog, and to remediate backup tapes based upon corporate policies.
“Index Engines technology extracts relevant content and metadata from backup segments without requiring the original backup software,” said Jim McGann, VP of Information Discovery for Index Engines. “This partnership with B&L further validates Index Engines’ commitment to enabling access to backup data for streamlined discovery and management.”
