eclaris employs index engines technology and executes ediscovery on half a petabyte of backup tape data in 47 days

Expert discovery services combined with patented technology lead eDiscovery market

HOLMDEL, NJ — Sept. 28, 2010 — eClaris Inc., a leading provider of eDiscovery services, and Index Engines, a leader in enterprise discovery technology, today announced the completion of a monumental eDiscovery project. eClaris used Index Engines patented data indexing technology to execute the discovery and collection of 517 TB of data contained on 1200 backup tapes, consisting of over 2.2 billion unstructured files and email. The cataloging, indexing, search and extraction of the relevant data were completed in 47 days.

“We saw the trend in the eDiscovery business moving toward larger and more complex processing projects,” said Jacques Nack Ngue, President and Founder of eClaris. “Responding to this market shift, we implemented Index Engines tape discovery technology in 2008, which has allowed us to far surpass former discovery process which relied on traditional tape restoration.”

eClaris performed this project for a leading law firm handling high-profile SEC investigation. The court mandated that relevant tape data be produced within 60 days. The electronically stored information that was ordered discoverable was contained on 1200 tapes from five years of data backed up using Symantec Backup Exec. The court had allocated 60 days for the discovery of this tape content. By using their expertise and Index Engines technology, eClaris was able to deliver the relevant content ahead of the deadline. A full case study with the details of this discovery project can be found here: http://www.indexengines.com/download/IE_eClaris_CS.pdf

“Dealing with backup tapes has a reputation of being painful and expensive when facing eDiscovery due to the use of traditional restoration services,” stated Jim McGann, Vice President of Information Discovery for Index Engines. “eClaris has proven that by using Index Engines the burden argument around tape no longer exists. As the volumes of data grow, technology will meet the challenge and keep pace with aggressive discovery needs.”
