Extracting ESI
When extracting files and email from tape using Index Engines technology, all data is extracted in its native format. Index Engines also compiles a listing of the content including all the original metadata. This listing can be used to verify the extracted content and ensure accuracy.
Index Engines also performs a final validation check at extraction time to insure the extracted file is exactly the same as the document/email stored on tape. During indexing the Index Engines software creates a unique document “signature” of the file including specific metadata. At extraction time, after retrieving the file from tape and prior to writing to external storage, the signature is generated and validated with the signature created at indexing time. This final check insures the integrity of the extracted file or email.
Our Validation Lab
The mission of the Index Engines validation lab is to continually test the software, including new versions of the product along with new versions of supported backup applications, to validate that tape data is indexed properly and that all data extracted is forensically sound and accurate. This is an ongoing process in order to ensure that when used properly Index Engines delivers un-altered ESI from backup tapes. The validation process ensures the integrity of the indexing process as well as the correctness of the extraction process
Our Proven Record
Index Engines technology has been used by corporate clients and law firms since 2006. Corporate clients and government agencies such as News Corporation and Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) have used Index Engines to extract responsive data from tape and deliver it to legal teams for review. These clients and many others are using the Index Engines technology to support eDiscovery projects for active litigation, and producing forensically sound and intact data from backup tapes. Index Engines is also sited in case law as the technology used to gather ESI for discovery.
