New personal data regulations. Threats of cyberattacks. Support for retention and archiving policies. Cost of storing files in the data center. New cloud migration strategies. How organizations manage and protect user data is fundamentally changing.

Index Engines tackles these challenges with the only enterprise class solution that supports user data across both primary and backup storage with petabyte-class scalability and performance. Index Engines’ clients are empowered to manage, analyze and govern data, controlling costs and supporting regulatory requirements.

Catalog Reporting
Cost-effective access to files and email from legacy backup tape

Understanding what existing on old, outdated backup tapes allows for the management and disposition of the content. Many old tapes are stored and preserved, only to discover that they contain data with no business value that is not required for long term retention.

View Sample Index Engines Catalog Reports

Index Engines manages backup catalogs by ingesting the metadata, or rebuilding them from tape or disk backups. Once this metadata is available in Index Engines, reports can be generated that provide comprehensive understanding of the content of legacy backup data. With this knowledge, a disposition strategy can be developed that reduces the risk and costs associated with legacy tape data archives.

Typical catalog reports are based on backup metadata and include: file types and extensions, regular expressions, servers and location, times (modified, accessed), Active Directory group membership, Owner, size, tags and more. These reports allow data to be classified by location, file count, and data size.

Leveraging the catalog reports, organizations gain valuable insight into their legacy backup data environment. This allows a defensible disposition strategy to be executed, including deletion of what is no longer required and migration of data of value to an archive.

  • Ingest multiple catalogs including TSM, NetBackup and Commvault, perform a unified search across metadata for more comprehensive analysis.
  • Dynamic reporting and classification of catalog data, using an intuitive graphical interface, supporting even the largest environments.
  • Supports reporting on production and non-production environments, including the ability to rebuild the catalog if a current version no longer exists.
