Backup of corporate data is a complex process due to time constraints and massive volumes of data that exist. A key reason backup is so complex is due to the fact that much of the data being backed up on a daily/weekly basis is outdated, redundant and trivial content. This content is cluttering the backup window and resulting in unnecessary and wasted expense in the data center.
Catalyst enables powerful reporting and profiling of backup catalogs so data can be classified and managed appropriately. Using Catalyst aged data can be uncovered, irrelevant files can be determined, and large files like multimedia content can be found along with who downloaded it to the network. Profiling a full backup will allow for decisions to be made and irrelevant network content to be migrated offline or to the cloud, streamlining the backup window.
Profiling backup data is easy and can be performed by sending a full backup tape set to our secure labs or onsite using a virtual or server deployment. Generating reports and analysis of backup data will allow for the streamlining and optimization of the backup window by eliminating outdated and aged data. Additionally the profiling of backup data will allow for data tiering and migration strategies to be developed based on the knowledge of what exists and where it is currently located.
